COMPANY HISTORY 

La Azerbaijan Airlines è stata fondata nell’aprile 1992 ed (AZAL, Azeri: Azerbaycan Hava Yollari) ha la propria base a Baku, capitale dell’Azerbaijan. La compagnia è di proprietà pubblica e opera servizi di linea sia passeggeri che cargo tra Baku e varie città dell’aria CIS, dell’Europa, della Cina e del Medio Oriente.

In Europa, Azerbaijan Airlines raggiunge le seguenti città: Vienna, Tiblisi, Tel Aviv, Simferopoli, San Pietroburgo, Roma, Praga, Parigi, Milano, Mosca, Londra, Lvov, Kiev, Francoforte.

In Asia, Azerbaijan Airlines raggiunge le seguenti città: Aktau, Antalya, Ankara, Bodrum, Dalaman, Dubai, Istanbul, Pechino, Tabriz, Teheran e Urumqi.

Azerbaijan Airlines serve inoltre varie destinazioni domestiche all'interno del paese quali: Ganja, Lankaran, Nakhchivan, Qabala, Zaqatala. Serve inoltre numerose destinazioni in Russia.

The company recently ordered two Boeing 787-8s and is waiting for delivery in 2014. As of November 2012, the average fleet age of Azerbaijan Airlines was 7.4 years, which makes it a very young and modern fleet.

- Capital: Baku 
- Member of CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) 
- Religion: muslim (mainly Sunni confession). Orthodox, Jewish and Roman catholic minorities.
- Population: 8.4 mln
- Passport: for Italian citizens, passport needs to be valid at least six months. 
- Visa: can be obtained on arrival at Baku airport at a cost of EUR60. 
- Currency: 1 EURO = 0.97 AZN. Euro, US dollars and all major currencies can be easily exchanged at all banks and exchange offices. Traveller cheques and credit cards are accepted only in main cities.
- Climate: temperate, with four seasons similar to Italy. 
- Customs: on arrival a customs declaration needs to be filled out and kept until the day of departure. 
- Health: no particular vaccinations required.
- Accommodation: 5 and 4 stars hotels in Baku. Outside the capital, be prepared for more simple accommodation.
- Airline: Azerbaijan Airlines fly direct two times a week from Milan and Rome to Baku.
- Time: add 3hrs to Italian time.
- Travel period: aside the winter period, from November to March, all seasons are good for travel.
